Third class in Intermediate II (Second Period)

                                                                                                    Thursday, April 4th 2013

Greetings!!

Thanks God, my third experience with this group of students was very good and I enjoyed it.

What went well?
Most of the activities turned out the way I expected and students were very participative this time. Among the activities that the teacher liked the most were: The warm-up because I started the class by activating schema/prior knowledge, the presentation because I used a song in which ss had to paste the most relevant lyrics for the topic, which was about “Countable and uncountable food”, and finally, the teacher liked the fact that I used a PowerPoint presentation to explain the grammar.
In the next link is the PowerPoint presentation, in case you want to check it.

What didn’t go so well?
Well, I had troubles with the equipment; the projector wasn’t able to show the presentation that I had in my computer so I had to use the teacher’s computer. Nevertheless, once we could see the PowerPoint presentation everything was good and actually helped me to save time since I didn’t have to write too much on the board or spend time pasting charts.

At the end of the class I thanked the students for their participation inasmuch as I wasn’t expecting their good behavior, I didn’t tell them that, but I did thank them for their behavior since the first class and they applauded me, so I felt very happy because I know they did it with their heart :3

All in all, I’m really thankful for all the experience that I have gained during my teaching practicum till now because I have learned many good things from all people around me; I have learned from their good attitudes, how to present the activities better, how to manage the class better, and many other things that helped me to be better not only as a professional, but also as a person.

  1. As you said Deysi, sometimes technology betrays us and we tend to feel really nervous or dissapointed of the plans we had, but the most important thing is that you could solve the situation. I like the use of presentations for the grammatical part, remember that we don´t have enough time to start writing it on the board, on the other hand, the Ss enjoy a lot when you use different tools that the ones that the original teacher uses. Congrats!!!!

  2. Hello Dear Deysi! I'm happy because you enjoyed every moment of the class. I liked how you taught the grammar because it was not in the same way that most of teachers do. As you said, it helped you to have more time in your class because you just put the presentation and that's all, you don't need to paste chart or something like that, also it can help you to have a more organized class, I mean you don't need to have a fight with chart or with masking tape!!!

Sometimes, technology doesn't function, but I consider that it is normal, and those are things that we cannot control.

Congratulations Deysi! I'm sure that your students had a good teacher!!! ;-)

  3. Excellent! You managed a hard situation very well, and that is admirable! You innovate the presentation of grammar in terms of technology and you lived that moment exactly as teachers must do. Technology is a very useful tool, but it will not always work and can be tricky which is not so good, but having a plan B would be nice. Sometimes, it is better to improve with technology, but always have a plan B just in case. I congratulate you for what you did, and I am sure that you will always do well. Cheers.

  6. Hello! Deysi

I really liked the idea of teaching grammar in a power point presentation because it calls students attention and they can also learn in a different way. Regarding with the problem you had with the equipment,it is a very common problem. That's why we need to have a plan B in case it fails. Continue working hard..Blessings!!

  7. Hi Deysi!

i always say that a teacher has to be prepared with a plan B because you never know what can happen during your class. in your case you made use of technology, but thanks God everything went in the right way at the end. In general i could see you have done a good job teaching intermediate level. congratulations and i wish you the best next period...
